  • - Description: The iMmersive huMan-systEms InteractionS lab (MIMESIS'Lab) is a joint research laboratory between the G-SCOP UMR CNRS Laboratory of Design, Optimisation and Production at the Grenoble Institute of Technology (Grenoble INP-UGA) and Skydea, the editor of the Skyreal virtual reality software application. Our goal is to equip engineers with more natural and richer 3D human-model interaction for collaborativey modelling complex engineered systems, with the goal of advancing human-centred computing in model-based systems architecting (MBSA). Short terms objectives include the development of new multi-modal collaborative MBSA modelling interfaces to explore and manage digital threads and to co-design architectures of engineered systems.

  • - Description: The project ArchiTOOL aims at inventing, prototyping, and evaluating an immersive and intelligent virtual environment for collaboratively designing the architecture of engineered systems. Instead of using domain-specific engineering software, the immersive and interactive environment will provide the architect with the modelling capabilities required to define the various views (operational, specification, functional, behavioural, structural, logic, safety, etc.) of a system architecture in a single virtual space before exporting each viewpoint in a standardised format that will enable domain-experts to continue with a detailed design. Moreover, the immersive environment will include a cognitive agent to support the system architect with intelligent capabilities: model verification, context-aware recommendation of rules, identification and automation of modelling routines.

• 2020-...: A community-based ecosystem for improving validation practices in engineering research (Website)
  • - Description: This open science initiative supported by the French S.mart Industry 4.0 Special Interest Group aims at improving the quality of research applied to engineering, especially the validation of results by creating open benchmark exercises to make quantitative judgements and fair comparisons to the state of the art. The version-controlled and community-based open platform is a collaborative space gathering benchmarks of engineering theories, processes, methods and tools where researchers can engage in the building of a sustainable validation ecosystem. In the GitHub platform, a benchmark gathers a community of experts focusing on a specific research problem and encourages the members of the community to: 1) Build empirical databases that store qualitative and quantitative research results, 2) Accumulate a sufficient number of similar studies to draw sound conclusions, 3) Make the state-of-the-art of a research field publicly available, 4) Dynamically collect new theories, methods and tools, 5) Provide a fair comparison of solutions in an environment equal to all participants and by covering the whole spectrum of interesting test cases, 6) Give industry partners the confidence that the theories, methods and tools are ready to be deployed and add value to their operations, 7) Document the outcome of benchmarking such that the experiments performed are repeatable, 8) Produce usable results with limited time and budget, 9) Know “what works, for whom, under which circumstances, 10) Pick up an existing method or tool to improve it, etc. In a nutshell, a benchmark should enable researchers and industrialists to rapidly learn the essence of a desired field of knowledge with an interest in finding its leading-edge.
